Royalserver: credentials stored local on client or on server store?

Hello everyone,

I am currently testing royal server for use in our company. We are two IT admins, my main goal is to streamline and harden administrative access (one entry point with secure gateway).

Until now we used RoyalTS, a shared document on onedrive and each admin had a local encrypted document where we stored our credentials.

Now I am unsure where to store the credentials - shall we stay with our local encrypted credentials or move the credential documents also to the royal server?

Some wants to share their opinion on this topic?

Best regards,

Manuel

Hi Manuel,

it would work both ways and it’s more like a matter of taste/preference. You can keep your local documents for your personal credentials (also have a good backup strategy!), or put your personal documents on the Royal Server. As long as it is only you who knows the document password, the data is still only available to you.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Stefan

One more thing:

If you save personal credential-documents on Royal Server, you can additionally restrict access via ACLs only to the owners so only they can read/write that document.

But given that this is error prone and more administrative effort, keeping them locally is probably the better choice.

Regards,
Michael

Thank you both for your answer!

I do feel like we will store credentials on the server. Credentials feel safer on the server than on the laptops.
