# SOCKS5 Proxy Support for RDP

Hi Stefan,

I am well aware that MSRDP ActiveX is closed source and does not support the use of proxies. The point I am trying to make and I believe Jody was pointing out was that you do not need built-in support for proxies. Royal TS can use ssh proxies in the Secure Gateway feature. This obviously works with the ActiveX version. The way I understand it this is done by the following steps:

1. Lets say we have an RDP connection which is configured for direct connections. We change that connection to use a Secure Gateway.
2. When I request to open the connection Royal TS connects using SSH to the Secure Gateway and opens a port on localhost. This port is configured as an SSH tunnel to the RDP target host and port.
3. Royal TS opens an RDP connection to localhost on the port just opened.

What we are proposing is that Royal TS could use a SOCKS-Client just as it uses the SSH-Client to setup the tunnel. Everything else stays the same. This way you can add SOCKS support to ActiveX RDP without having actual support for it in the closed source part. This is the same way you added SSH-Tunnel support to it.
